The Proposals

A new Lidl store for Lewes will provide increased shopping choice and create 40 local, well-paid jobs. The updated plans include:

A repositioned store building with an active frontage onto Malling Street and Brooks Road. The store is a bespoke design for this key gateway site taking local character, heritage and key local viewpoints into consideration

A landscape-led plan supporting significant biodiversity enhancements, including large areas of tree and shrub planting

A substantial landscape buffer between the store and neighbours will protect residential amenity and heritage assets

Rainwater gardens icon

Rainwater gardens in the car park and providing sustainable drainage and features of interest in the car park

Landscape buffer icon

Landscape buffer along Davey Lane to provide a green link to the wider area

A new green boulevard along Brooks Road including new street trees and the tree cluster on the corner of Malling Street and Brooks Road has been retained

pedestrian access icon

New pedestrian accesses onto Malling Street, including a stepped and ramped access aligning with the existing pedestrian crossing point. A new pedestrian crossing over Brooks Road is also included

electric vehicle charging icon

The proposals include cycle parking and staff changing facilities, EV charging points and solar panels on the roof will help power the store
